Wedding engagement celebration suggestions. Congrats you’re engaged, and now it’s time for some inspiring engagement celebration to get the excitement rolling.

From your engagement announcement to your engagement party and finally the wedding the next few weeks are going to have all eyes on you. So get planning and celebrating amongst family and friends with our creative ideas for something oh so you!

Wedding engagement celebration suggestions…

Step 1. Letting your parents know you’re engaged

Except for in the case of existing children, your parents should always be the first to know. In person is best but if distance is an issue make the effort to call. It’s important that all children and parents have received the good news before posting anything on social media.

Traditionally:

Children should be told first solely in the presence of their parent (without fiancé present) so they can feel free to react honestly.

The bride’s parents should be informed first.

In the case of divorced parents, the parent the child lived most with should take precedence.

The groom’s parents should arrange to meet the bride’s parents in person or over the phone if they don’t already know each other.

Our favourite idea however is organising a nice dinner with both parents to share the news together where possible.

Step 2. Celebrating your engagement on social media

Your facebook, instagram or twitter engagement status has almost overtaken the importance of telling your friends and families in person. There’s more pressure than ever now to post something clever, cute and creative. But don’t get too caught up in choosing the “perfect photo”.

Try our top tips for sharing your engagement on social media:

Tell a story – with elements of your proposal in the photo

Don’t forget your hashtags #SheSaidYes

Play with words in your photo caption – relevant puns are never corny eg. “forever has a nice ring to it”

Re-enact the moment, or even better, film it!

Step 3. Revel in your engagement with some unique couple time

Before you get stuck into wedding planning it’s essential you take the time to bask in your engagement euphoria. Try out at least one of these engagement activities designed especially for couples to celebrate their big decision.

1. If your fiancé didn’t already steal this one for the proposal, our favourite idea is to revisit your first date. Whether it’s the exact location or simply a meal of the same cuisine, you’re bound to have some laughs reminiscing about how it all started.

2. Celebrate with a romantic night in and your favorite liquor. There’ll be plenty of champagne leading up to your wedding, so indulge in a pyjama party night of dinner, movies and drinks that have bonded the two of you together.

3. Whether it’s a couples massage or getting a mani-pedi to show off that ring, make sure you indulge in some engagement celebration pampering time.

It doesn’t have to be done by a professional, it could simply entail you taking selfies visiting spots where significant moments in your relationships have occurred. Engagements are one of the true blissful periods of a lifetime, and having keepsakes to remember it by will never be regretted. Plus you can use the pictures for your invites or wedding website etc.

5. Take a short Engagecation to relax and revel in each others company before the influx of wedding planning begins.

Step 4. Engagement party suggestions to rock your rock

Tradaitionally most engagement parties take place in someone’s back yard or at a local restaurant. There is no problem with either of these options, however we strongly suggest tying in some of your wedding theme colours, patterns or imagery if you’ve already had a chance to decide on them to make the event feel more like an engagement.

If you need some ideas for wedding theme ideas, the wedding decoration experts at Wedding Paper Divas have an extensive list of ideas (here) from Great Gatsby engagement parties, beach engagement parties to outdoor mimosa parties. Check it out!

We highly recommend considering an engagement party where you and your guests can do something fun though.

Think: going on a glamping or family camping trip, a board game, bingo or trivia night, a sunset cruise, a wine and cheese tour, a barn dance, or even go-karting!

Giving your guests something else they can mingle over always helps the union of different friends and family.

Top Tips

Let someone busting at the seams to be involved in your wedding plan the engagement party for you.

Traditionally only guests you intend on inviting to the wedding should be invited to the engagement, but you may choose to invite those who won’t be at the wedding, or to restrict it just to close friends, family and the bridal party – the choice is totally yours!
